The sound of trees swaying in the wind, birds chirping, and a distant waterfall echoing from afar—
just imagining it is soothing, isn’t it?

Today, I’d like to introduce a game that lets you experience that kind of tranquility in full:
“Cast n Chill”, a beautiful fishing game set in a vast, pixel-art wilderness.

This article is based on my impressions from playing the currently available demo version.

What is Cast n Chill all about?

Developer & Publisher: Wombat Brawler

Set in a breathtaking pixel-art wilderness, Cast n Chill is a relaxing fishing game where you can unwind and enjoy the peaceful rhythm of casting your line in nature.

A Vast Pixel World of Nature and Peaceful Fishing Moments

Stunningly beautiful pixel art (shown at 10x speed)

The first thing that catches your eye when you start playing is the breathtaking wilderness, meticulously rendered in pixel art.
Just one look, and you’ll find yourself drawn into its vast beauty.

The sun rises, the sky turns orange as evening falls, and eventually the stars blanket the night sky.
Simply watching time pass in this world brings a deep sense of calm, as if your heart is slowly being unknotted.

This majestic landscape is brought to life by the presence of wildlife—deer, ducks, and fish swimming beneath the surface.
These creatures breathe life into the pixel world, making it feel all the more real—so much so that you may forget you’re in a game.

In this peaceful setting, the player sets out on a quiet fishing trip, floating alone on a lake in a small boat.
But you’re not entirely alone.

A fluffy dog companion joins you on your journey.
Wagging its tail, letting out the occasional bark, or simply sitting contentedly—it brings a gentle warmth that adds to the game’s soothing charm.

Just as the title Cast n Chill suggests, this game is filled with slow, relaxing moments that let you breathe easy and simply enjoy the quiet.

Casting a lure into the still water

The main activity in this game is, of course, fishing.
Just casting your line and relaxing in the vast, beautiful wilderness is soothing enough—
but there are also a variety of systems in place to make the experience even more enjoyable.

Upgrade Your Fishing Gear

In Cast n Chill, you’ll have access to a variety of fishing gear—
such as:

  • Fishing rods
  • Lures
  • Boats

You can sell the fish you catch to earn money, which can then be used to buy new gear or upgrade your existing equipment.

Fishing rods come in types suited for small or large fish, and you can upgrade attributes like line strength and casting distance.

Lures can be swapped depending on the kind of fish you want to catch, helping you reel in your targets more efficiently.

Boats are also an essential part of your toolkit for getting around the lake.
You’ll start with a simple rowboat, but upgrades will let you switch to a fast, motor-powered boat.
Not only will you move faster, but you’ll also be able to carry more fish—making each fishing trip much more efficient.
(Though… it doesn’t come cheap!)

Complete Your Fish Encyclopedia

Fish you catch are automatically added to your encyclopedia.
Each entry records the size, and catching a bigger fish will update your record—which makes it all the more fun to aim for the largest ones.
Many fish also have rarity levels, which adds an extra layer of excitement for collectors.

Enjoy Fishing Across a Variety of Lakes

In the demo, you can only fish in one lake,
but the full version is expected to feature multiple lakes to explore.

Each lake will likely offer different types of fish to catch,
as well as completely different scenery to enjoy.

Most of all, the thought of discovering new, beautiful landscapes is something to truly look forward to.

A Relaxing Yet Realistic Fishing Experience

The gameplay is incredibly simple.
Hop into your boat, explore the lake, and cast your lure where you think the fish might be—that’s it.

Unlike many fishing games, Cast n Chill doesn’t use gauges or meters.
Instead, it offers a more authentic, hands-on fishing experience.

You cast your lure, slowly reel it in, and try to attract a bite.
Once a fish hooks on, you’ll need to adjust your strategy—sometimes reeling it in, sometimes waiting for it to tire out.
It’s a delicate balance that captures the feel of real-life fishing.

But be careful.
Reel too hard while the fish is thrashing, or let it pull too far, and the line might snap—leaving your prize swimming free.

The absence of gauges actually enhances the sense of realism and tension, making every successful catch feel genuinely rewarding.

Under the surface, you’ll find all kinds of fish—from tiny swimmers to massive powerhouses that put up a serious fight.
The bigger the fish, the more stamina and strength they have, so upgrading your gear is essential if you want to stand a chance.

Fishing gear can be bought and upgraded at a shop near the lake.
There, you’ll meet a cheerful old man who’s a little too enthusiastic about your fishing skills.
He’ll shower you with praise, and honestly, you might catch yourself smiling because of it. 😄

Sounds, scenery, fishing, and a fluffy dog—this game has all the healing you need.

From the very beginning, I was blown away by the breathtaking pixel art.

The mountains and sky shift in expression from sunrise to sunset, painting a world that constantly changes with time.
When the trees clear and the view opens up, the scenery is so stunning it takes your breath away.
It’s truly a work of art.

And then there are the incredibly realistic ambient sounds.
Just sitting there, listening to the world around you while gazing at the scenery, was enough to make me feel completely at peace.

The soft splash of your oar cutting through the water, the gentle “plop” of your lure hitting the lake, the distant chirping of birds—
these sounds come together to create a deeply calming atmosphere.

As mentioned earlier, there are no gauges in the fishing system.
I actually think that’s perfect—it keeps the screen clean and helps maintain the game’s quiet, realistic tone.

Fishing can be surprisingly challenging, and I lost quite a few catches.
But when you finally land a big one after a long, tense fight, the sense of reward is incredible.
And to top it off, the friendly shopkeeper gives you an over-the-top compliment that always makes me smile.

Catching a new species or setting a new size record plays a little country-style jingle—which honestly hits my sweet spot and makes me grin every time.

And let’s not forget the adorable dog!
Your fluffy companion barks now and then, keeping you company in the most heartwarming way.
If you’re a dog lover, I’m convinced this game is at least 1.5 times more relaxing for you!

A Demo That Leaves You Wanting More

Breathtaking scenery and soothing sounds.
Sometimes, that’s all you need to truly relax.
If you’re feeling a little tired, why not let yourself sink into the quiet of this peaceful game?

What I played was just the demo version.
While many features were still locked, that limitation offered a glimpse of what’s to come—
new gameplay elements, expanded fishing gear, and even more beautiful landscapes waiting to be explored.

Cast n Chill is set to release in June 2025.
If this peaceful fishing world speaks to you, be sure to add it to your wishlist and look forward to the day it arrives.
