Towering wilderness rendered in exquisite pixel art. Wildlife thriving all around you. The gentle sound of flowing rivers and birdsong creates a world that’s both peaceful and inviting. That’s the atmosphere of Wombat Brawler’s upcoming survival crafting game, Wild n Chill.
Inspired by the cozy spirit of Cast n Chill, Wild n Chill lets players build an outdoor life from the ground up in the heart of nature. Even in its demo, the game offers a compelling blend of tranquil exploration and the ever-present challenges of surviving in the wild.
In this hands-on preview, I’ll share my impressions of the early demo, focusing on its stunning pixel-art visuals and the satisfying progression of building a life one step at a time.
A Peaceful World Brought to Life Through Beautiful Pixel Art

A breathtaking wilderness brought to life through pixel art
Wild n Chill immediately draws you in with its beautifully crafted pixel-art wilderness.
Dense forests, gently flowing rivers, and moss-covered cabins create a peaceful landscape, while the soothing sounds of birdsong and running water make the experience feel almost like taking a walk through a real forest.
The natural environments were already one of the highlights of Cast n Chill, but Wild n Chill takes that concept a step further by letting you actually live within this beautiful world. Rather than simply admiring the scenery, you’re encouraged to become part of it.

The forest is home to a wide variety of wildlife, from towering bears to tiny rabbits. These animals aren’t just decorative background elements—they behave like genuine inhabitants of the wilderness. Simply watching them go about their lives makes the world feel more authentic and draws you even deeper into the experience.
Building an Outdoor Life from Scratch

The demo begins with nothing more than the protagonist, a loyal dog, and a vast forest waiting to be explored.
Your first task is simple: gather whatever nature has to offer. Stones, fallen branches, and vines gradually become the building blocks of your new life.
One of the game’s most satisfying features is how crafting naturally expands as you discover new materials. Picking up a stone unlocks a stone knife, while finding vines allows you to craft rope. Starting with absolutely nothing and slowly building the essentials of daily life makes every new recipe feel like a meaningful achievement. Each new tool leaves you wondering, “What will I be able to craft next?” and gently pulls you deeper into the experience.

As your skills grow, you’ll be able to build a campfire and even set up a meat grill reminiscent of those seen in the Monster Hunter series. Watching your humble campsite gradually evolve into a comfortable base is deeply satisfying, making every crafting milestone feel rewarding.
Rather than focusing on the fear of losing everything, Wild n Chill is about building a life one day at a time. That gentle sense of progression is incredibly relaxing, and before I knew it, I had completely lost track of time while wandering the forest in search of new materials.
Nature Can Be Beautiful—And Dangerous
The wilderness isn’t just a place of peace and relaxation. It is also home to countless wild animals, and wandering carelessly into their territory can quickly turn dangerous.
The greatest threat I encountered in the demo was a massive bear. Get too close, and it immediately bares its teeth before charging straight at you. A single attack leaves you injured and drains a significant amount of your stamina, making survival much more difficult.
One of the most important lessons Wild n Chill teaches is that surviving isn’t always about fighting. Recognizing danger, keeping your distance, and respecting the wilderness are often the smartest choices you can make.
While nature offers comfort and abundance, it also demands respect. That balance between serenity and danger is what makes exploring this world feel so rewarding.

A Life That Grows One Step at a Time
You begin your journey with nothing.
Watching your possibilities slowly expand is one of the most rewarding parts of Wild n Chill.
It starts with gathering stones to craft a stone knife, then finding vines to make rope. Before long, you’ve crafted a stone axe, started cutting down trees, built a simple tent, and placed a campfire beside it. As night falls, you rest with your loyal dog before setting out again the next morning. Eventually, crafting a bow opens the door to hunting and an even more self-sufficient way of life.

The game also introduces friendly people living in the forest. Completing their requests rewards you with useful tools, giving you even more ways to improve your life in the wilderness.
What I enjoyed most was the gradual sense of progress. Every tool you crafted and every improvement to your camp made the world feel a little larger, and before I realized it, I had completely lost track of time.
The demo only scratches the surface of what’s to come. According to the developers, the full game will let players build their own cabin, making me even more excited to see just how far life in Wild n Chill can grow.

Every Page Holds a New Discovery
Everything you discover throughout your adventure is gradually recorded in a beautifully illustrated journal.
Every page is filled with detailed pixel-art illustrations, from wildlife and plants to survival tools and equipment. Even without reading a single word, simply flipping through the journal is a pleasure in itself.
As I turned each page, I was reminded of the illustrated adventure and survival books I loved as a child. The accompanying descriptions are full of charm and humor, making the journal enjoyable to read while also teaching you more about the world around you.
The English writing is equally engaging, balancing useful information with lighthearted personality. Opening the journal never felt like reading a manual—instead, every new entry felt like another small discovery waiting to be made.

My Life in the Wilderness Has Only Just Begun

Wild n Chill is a wonderful reminder that survival games don’t always have to be about constant danger or relentless pressure. Instead, it invites you to build a life in a beautifully crafted pixel-art wilderness, one small step at a time.
Gathering materials, crafting new tools, and slowly expanding your campsite creates a deeply satisfying sense of progression. At the same time, the gentle sounds of flowing water and birdsong provide moments of genuine peace, while wildlife, hunger, thirst, and the ever-present threat of bears ensure that survival always remains meaningful.
Even this early demo successfully captures the joy of living alongside nature. With the full release promising player-built cabins and many more crafting possibilities, I can’t wait to see just how far life in Wild n Chill can grow.
If you’re looking for a relaxing survival crafting game with a beautifully realized pixel-art world, be sure to add Wild n Chill to your Steam wishlist and keep an eye on its development.
